Honors and Distinctions in 1999

Prof. Dr. Basler Konrad, Full Professor of Molecular Biology, was awarded the 1999 EMBO Gold Medal by the European Molecular Biology Organization.

Prof. Dr. Bernoulli Daniel, Full Professor of Geology, was awarded the Prestwich Prize by the Société Géologique de France.

Prof. Dr. Brinkmann Detlef, Full Professor of Experimental Physics, received an invitation from the University of Hyderabad to become a Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Professor.

Prof. Dr. Burg Jean-Pierre, Full Professor of Geology, was appointed Fellow by the Pakistan Academy of Geological Sciences. He also received an invitation from the "Japan Society for the Promotion of Science" to do fieldwork in Japan as part of the "JSPS Invitation Fellowship Program for Research in Japan."

Prof. Dr. Elsasser Hans, Full Professor of Geography, was elected to join the steering group of the National Reserach Program "Landscapes and Habitats of the Alps".

Prof. Dr. Furrer Gerhard, Professor Emeritus of Geography, was granted honorary membership in the Swiss Geomorphological Society.

Prof. Dr. Hafen Ernst, Full Professor of Zoology, was conferred with the Prix Mondial Nessim Habif 1999 by the University of Geneva.

Müri Ruth, Assistant in the Department of Geography, received a recognition award from the Swiss Society for Applied Geography for her thesis "Büroimmobilienmarkt Zürich Nord" (The market for office space in North Zurich).

Prof. Dr. Schaffner Walter, Full Professor of Molecular Biology, was distinguished with the Carus Medal by the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
