In biomedicine, the processes in the healthy and diseased human organism are researched and taught at the level of cells, genes and molecules. This scientific-biological knowledge leads to a comprehensive understanding of the complex functions of an organ and the body as a whole. Biomedicine is thus a bridging discipline (translational medicine) that binds scientific research with clinical medicine.
