Sara Irina Fabrikant, Full Professor of Geography, was elected vice-president of the Executive Committee of the International Cartographic Association (ICA).

Henning Jessen, SNSF Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry, received the Ruzicka Prize 2015 from ETH Zurich for his work on the synthesis and study of the chemical biology of secondary messengers, especially inositol pyrophosphates.

Lucas Pelkmans, Full Professor at the Institute of Molecular Life Sciences; Stefano Pozzorini, SNSF Assistant Professor at the Department of Physics; Anne Müller, Full Professor at the Institute of Molecular Cancer Research (dual professorship); and Sebastian Jessberger, Associate Professor at the Brain Research Institute (dual professorship) received an SNSF Consolidator Grant.

Distinctions for Members of the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Science Holding Dual Professorships

Martin Jinek, Assistant Professor (with tenure track) at the Department of Biochemistry, received the Friedrich Miescher Prize from the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT) for his outstanding contributions to research into microbial defense systems, as co-inventor of the genetic tool CRISPR-Cas9.

Martin Jinek, Assistant Professor (with tenure track) at the Department of Biochemistry, received the Vallee Young Investigator Award from the Vallee Foundation in Boston, USA. This international award recognizes young investigators for their outstanding contributions to biomedical research.

Martin Jinek, Assistant Professor (with tenure track) at the Department of Biochemistry, was appointed an EMBO Young Investigator.

Heini Murer, Professor Emeritus of Physiology, received the Robert W. Berliner Award for Excellence in Renal Physiology from the Renal Section of the American Physiological Society.

Magdalini Polymenidou, SNSF Assistant Professor at the Institute of Molecular Life Sciences, received the Georg-Friedrich Götz Prize 2014 from the University of Zurich. This prize is awarded for outstanding contributions in the field of medical research.
