Share your passion about science with a photo and participate in the Faculty of Science (MNF) Photo Contest.
Being amateur or a professional, take your camera, seize the moment, and join the contest. What are you doing as a scientist? What is your research object? What memorable moments are there?
Your photo will be displayed at the MNF Science and Nature Festival 2024; might win a prize and be sold as postcard at Science Pavilion UZH!
Students and staff of the University of Zurich
• People in research: photographs of research in practice featuring those who are engaged in it
• Research objects: from “micro” to “macro”, photographs or images illustrating a research object or a scientific concept (condition: no use of generative AI)
• Locations and instruments: photographs of the environments for measurements, data generations, making discoveries and/or of the instruments for those
• Life on campus: photographs that bring an insight into the everyday life as a student or a scientist
• Interactions: photographs of a scientific activity involving those who communicate science and the audience, from experts to school children, students or the public

• Photo(s) that meet(s) the conditions (see Conditions for submission below)
• The title of the photo in English or German (max. 70 characters with space)
• The description of the photo in English or German (max. 100 words)
• Maximum 1 photo per category per person
• Landscape or portrait orientation
• JPEG only. Max. 10 MB per photo. Sufficient resolution when printed in ca. A4 size.
• All kinds of digital cameras (including smartphones) are allowed. Accessories with the camera (filter, light...etc.) are allowed.
• No use of generative AI such as ChatGPT
• The participants authorise the publication of the submitted images under a CC-BY licence (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/): reusers can distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format, so long as attribution is given to the creator. The license allows for commercial use. The photos will be displayed during the Science and Nature Festival 2024 and on the respective website. At a later time point, they will be further displayed in the Lichthof of UZH Irchel Campus. A selection of the photos will be sold as postcards in the Science Pavilion UZH. The names of the photographers will be displayed on the postcard, but no royalty will be given.
The participation is free of charge.

• 1 per category selected by the public
1st Prize: a membership for 2025 and CHF 200 voucher for the Fotomuseum Winterthur
2nd Prize: CHF 100 voucher for the Fotomuseum Winterthur
3rd Prize: CHF 50 voucher for the Fotomuseum Winterthur
I. Competition (until May 10, 2024)

• Displayed digital on the website and printed at the MNF Science and Nature Festival 2024 on June 8.

• On stage at the MNF Science and Nature Festival 2024
IV. Sales of postcards of the winners’ photos (after June 8, 2024)
• At Science Pavilion UZH (Winterthurerstrasse 190, 8057 Zurich)
